The highlights of the year in Metz

The Christmas market, one of the most beautiful in France

From mid-November to late December, Metz transforms: chalets spread across several city-centre squares, the Sentier des Lanternes lantern trail and a Ferris wheel facing the cathedral. The atmosphere draws visitors from across the region and from neighbouring Luxembourg, and city-centre accommodation goes very quickly — book early. To plan your visit (dates, squares, insider tips), see our Christmas markets guide.

The Centre Pompidou-Metz

A 5-minute walk from the station, this museum of modern and contemporary art with its spectacular architecture welcomes more than 500,000 visitors a year. Its major temporary exhibitions keep the programme fresh: check what is currently on — there is almost always a good reason to drop by. From our city-centre properties, you are there in just a few minutes on foot.

FC Metz at Saint-Symphorien & concerts at Les Arènes

On match nights, the Saint-Symphorien stadium pulses to the rhythm of FC Metz — an experience worth having if your stay falls on a league weekend. Les Arènes de Metz, meanwhile, hosts concerts and major sporting events all year round. Either way, staying in the city centre spares you the post-event traffic jams: you walk home, or you are back in minutes.

Summer in Metz

When the sun is out, Metz Plage sets up deckchairs and activities along the waterfront, and the terraces of the pedestrian centre fill up. It is also the perfect season to admire Saint-Étienne Cathedral, nicknamed “the Good Lord’s lantern” for its immense expanses of glass — including stained-glass windows by Chagall — and to stroll along the Moselle. Our apartments put you at the starting point of all these walks.
