On Monday 28 September 2026, Pope Leo XIV will be in Metz — a historic day: no pope has ever visited the Moselle region before. This stop concludes his apostolic journey to France (25–28 September: Paris, Lourdes, then Metz) and will be marked by a Mass celebrated at Saint-Stephen's Cathedral in the early afternoon. Nicknamed “God's lantern” for its exceptional stained-glass windows, the cathedral and the whole city centre will welcome tens of thousands of pilgrims and visitors from France, Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium. The visit will also honour Robert Schuman, founding father of Europe, whose memory is closely tied to Metz and the Moselle.

Metz will be fully booked long before 28 September. Thionville is 20 minutes by train from Metz station (then a 10-minute walk to the cathedral): a stress-free option on the day, when central Metz is closed to traffic — with friendlier rates for groups and families.
Practical tips for 28 September 2026
- Book early — for a papal event, accommodation goes months in advance.
- Central Metz will be closed to traffic — stay somewhere with parking (all our addresses have it) and finish on foot or by public transport.
- From Thionville, take the train — 20 minutes to Metz-Ville, no parking worries.
